Making Medicine of Our Lives
“I want to tell you a story.”

Because story is how Life speaks to us.
Do you feel how your body and mind shift into a different mode when someone says those words?
I remember reading to my children—for years—from infancy into their early tweens—and how rapt their attention was.
How completely engaged they became in the story, following the rhythm of events and the emotions of the people.
As if there was a universal formula built into them that they could follow.
The Universal Formula: Life Intelligence
Of course, there is a universal formula.
It’s called Life Intelligence—a rhythm and flow that is fairly predictable (and some of us can feel, read, and translate that flow into paths we can trust).
Indigenous cultures have honored that rhythm, creating ceremony around the juncture points when a person stands at a threshold moment—rites of passage and initiations that show a person’s humility as they submit to the Great Intelligence of Life and cooperate with what they are being asked to become.
In western, capitalistic culture, we’ve been taught to ignore that deeper rhythm…
to believe we are “above” all that,
that we can outsmart Life,
have things our way,
without regard for body, heart, spirit,
or co-creation with All That Is.
And then we’re shocked when Life happens.
When Life Reclaims Us
When the rhythm reclaims us.
When the truth of body and physical life and what’s real are revealed.
When we’re shown who “the boss” really is.
It’s Life’s Intelligence—by many names and faces (and faceless).
While we’re here in the physical—which we came a long way to be, by astounding miraculous events—it is an audacious lack of humility to disregard this amazing Earthly life and its profound teachings.
While we are here.
A Life of Teachings
I’ve had so many teachings.
I have been schooled hard.
I have had many initiations.
I have submitted over and over.
And I will continue to be schooled until I offer my body back to the Earth (we are only borrowing it, you remember?).
And I will continue to submit—
adding another story to the patchwork quilt of my heroine’s journey,
which is part of the fabric of Creation,
woven with all of our journeys.
The Crossroads
Every time something hard has happened in my life—and I’ve lived through some things that would drop many people to the floor—I have found myself standing at a crossroads.
One direction is the familiar one:
“Why me?”
Collapse.
Despair.
Feeling victimized by the thing that happened.
We have all been there. There’s no shame in that path.
But there is another direction.
A quieter one.
A deeper one.
The choice to make meaning out of the experience.
Making Falling a Voluntary Act
Joseph Campbell talks about “making falling a voluntary act.”
Life will eventually crack us open—we don’t get to avoid that part.
But we do get to choose how we meet it.
And over and over again, I have chosen to say:
Let me find the myth in this.
Let me see the archetype moving through me.
Let me make ceremony out of what has happened.
That choice—again and again—is what has allowed me not only to survive, but to become.
It’s what has shaped my medicine.
It’s what has allowed me to serve others.
It’s what has revealed my purpose.
The Universal Path of Becoming
Over 30 years of doing this work with others, I’ve realized this isn’t just my way—
it’s a universal path of healing and becoming.
We turn our wounds into wisdom.
We turn our pain into prayer.
We turn our life into offering.
This is what I mean when I say:
We make medicine of our lives.
The Myth & Medicine Makers Circle
This winter, I am opening a circle for those who are called to do this work in community.
The Myth & Medicine Makers Circle
For those who feel the myth stirring inside their life story.
For those who want to integrate the hard things and turn them into art, meaning, purpose, and offering.
For those who feel they are meant to bring something sacred into the world—not in theory, but for real.
If this is you… you’ll feel it in your bones reading this.
More details coming soon—but if your body already knows, send me a message and I’ll make sure you’re included when the doors open.
We make the medicine by living the story on purpose.
And we don’t have to do it alone.
